Reasonable handcuffs

I watch a hawk drop,
talons extended toward food.
Nearby vultures circle.
In a large pool, a uterus
swims like a jellyfish,
turning the water red-brown.
A woman underwater
has her back cracked open.
She’s a crustacean,
a hybrid mermaid.
Red armor protects her
pale flesh.
Translucent anemones,
green sea-weed ribbons
flicker like flame.
I sit in a large boat, drop a line
into the pond. An electric current flows
through me. The water hums.
